Henrietta Knight backs handling of Al Boum Photo for repeat Gold Cup tilt
Henrietta Knight believes Al Boum Photo’s quiet campaign gives him the best chance of winning consecutive Magners Cheltenham Gold Cups like her legendary Best Mate.
No horse has successfully defended their Gold Cup crown in consecutive seasons since Best Mate won three in a row between 2002 and 2004, with greats like Kauto Star and Denman among those to have tried and failed.
Knight remains proud and unbowed when it comes to Best Mate’s Gold Cup hat-trick and reckons trainer Willie Mullins is right to follow the same pattern with last year’s winner Al Boum Photo in his build-up to next month’s festival showpiece.
