Mountain Breeze 6-4 for Royal Ascot contest after bolting up on the Rowley Mile

Mountain Breeze and Pat Dobbs
Mountain Breeze: could head straight to the Albany after winning at Newmarket

There was a Hurricane fighter aircraft in the family enclosure on the Rowley Mile and there was another flying machine out on the track in the shape of Mountain Breeze, who was introduced by Paddy Power as 6-4 favourite for the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot after she defied a penalty in the opener.

The daughter of Lope De Vega backed up her debut win at the Guineas meeting when defying a 5lb penalty in the 6f fillies' novice for Charlie Appleby and Pat Dobbs.

Mountain Breeze was doing all her best work late over five furlongs on her introduction and she looked much more at home over this extra furlong when coming clear out of the Dip to account for debutante New Charter.

Appleby's assistant Alex Merriam said: "Mountain Breeze was entitled to be a short price after how she won last time and this is probably more her trip. It was a straightforward task even though she had a penalty and she was pretty professional today. I'll have to speak to Charlie Appleby but I would suggest she'll go straight to the Albany."

Dobbs has a decent strike-rate for Appleby and was impressed with Mountain Breeze.

"She's a nice filly who won despite not handling the track," the jockey said. "My agent Tony Hind is also agent for William Buick, who had to go to Newbury."

Mountain Breeze is in good company as the contest has been won by two subsequent 1,000 Guineas winners in recent years, Cachet (2021) and Mawj (2022).

Paddy Power representative Paul Binfield said: "Mountain Breeze looks the best British-based two-year-old filly we've seen so far this season. She has an electric turn of foot and looks the one to beat in the Albany Stakes."

Dobbs domination

Dobbs scored on all three of his mounts including Carrytheone, who booked his place in the Buckingham Palace Stakes after landing the £100,000 7f handicap.

The seven-year-old won his purchase price twice over when holding off Gorak in a driving finish. Successful trainer Michael Bell was enjoying his second winner in as many days on the Rowley Mile after the victory of juvenile Camera Shy on Friday.

Owner Stuart Mizon said: "I've never had a runner at Royal Ascot before but we bought this fellow for the Buckingham Palace Stakes, so I'm off to get a top hat after that. I bought him from Johnny Murtagh for 25,000gns, so he's more than covered his costs."

Dobbs completed his treble, and a double for Charlie Appleby, when getting Precious Jewel home to score at the second time of asking in the 1m4f fillies' novice.

Double for Doyle

Hollie Doyle doubled up in two of the £25,000 handicaps, notably with Great Blasket, who came from nearly last in the Dip to get up and deny Zozimus in the mile contest.

The well-backed 7-2 favourite was a first winner at the track for the training combination of Richard Newland and Jamie Insole.

Insole said: "I told Hollie to try and get to the front 100 yards out, not ten!"

The Doyle double was initiated by So Logical, who won the 7f handicap for John and Thady Gosden.
