Smart View: Racing Post’s Revolutionary Racecard
If you are new to racing, or not quite sure what you are looking for, then Smart View could be your new best friend.
It helps you focus on what matters, get involved faster, and feel more confident when looking at a racecard – without needing to be an expert.

What is Smart View?
Racing Post’s Smart View racecards represent a groundbreaking evolution in racecard design, simplifying complex data such as a horse’s ability, trainer, jockey and course form into easily digestible attributes.
Powered by Racing Post’s extensive database, the scores and ratings used to rate horses are generated using algorithms built by a team of experts in horseracing and data science. Smart View racecards provide all the necessary information to punters for informed betting decisions.
Smart View focuses on the factors that are most likely to matter in a race and presents them visually, so you can make sense of things at a glance rather than digging through pages of form. You don’t need to be an expert or spend hours researching – Smart View does the hard work for you.
Smart View Attributes Explained
Smart View identifies six important attributes to help you find the winner of a race: ability, jumping, trainer, course, jockey and distance. Each of these attributes are scored individually, and then contribute to an overall Smart View Score.

Ability
A mix of how well they have performed on the track recently and their potential. Recent performance is calculated via our own Racing Post Ratings, while machine learning algorithms help predict performances for horses with little to no previous form.
Jumping
Unique ratings based on how well a horse has jumped in a race it has contested. The better the score, it means the horse is a good jumper and more reliable to finish.
Trainer
Unique ratings based on how good the horses are in a trainer’s stable and their performance statistics. These include winners, course records and recent form.
Course
Measures the form horses have shown at today’s course or similar tracks in the past.
Jockey
Our unique jockey ratings consider the quality of a jockey’s rides and their performance statistics, including winners, course records, record for trainer and recent form.
Distance
Evaluation of a horse’s suitability for race distance, considering past performances and pedigree data.
Draw
Analysis of historical and recent draw data to predict whether where a horse starts from is an advantage or a hindrance for runners. A higher score suggests it has a better starting point. Only relevant to Flat races.
Ground
Measurement of a horse’s runs at his best on the ground conditions based on whether they have won or where they have finished on different ground types. This attribute adjusts to any changes in going.
What is Smart View Score?
Each horse is given a score out of 100, reflective of the eight key attributes, including ability, trainer, jockey, course, distance, ground, draw, and jumping. The overall scores are weighted against the competition and current race conditions, assessing how well the horse will be suited to the race.
The horse with the highest Smart View Score is considered to be best suited to the race at hand, and therefore the Smart View algorithm’s tip for the race.
Smart View Scores cannot exceed a score of 100, and the score does not explicitly reflect the percentage chance of a horse winning the race (i.e. 96% does not mean this horse has a 96% chance of winning).
Smart View is designed to help quantify a horse’s chance in the race, and can be used to help users make more informed decisions.

How accurate is Smart View at predicting winners?
Smart View isn’t an exact science and is best used as a tool to help inform your own decisions.
However, in 2025, Smart View predicted 3,043 winners from 12,167 eligible races, which is a strike-rate of 25%. That’s a winner in every four races on average.
Whilst Smart View is a powerful tool to assess a horse’s chance within a race, and does ultimately provide a tip in each race – there is no such thing as a certainty in horseracing.
If you do decide to place a bet, with or without the help of Smart View, please only gamble what you can afford to lose. For more information on how to bet safely, you can find helpful tools and advice on our Safer Gambling page.
