Only just over three weeks into the Tote Ten to Follow jumps competition and some horses have already managed to score twice and shape the leaderboard.

Chief among those is Jonbon, who took the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on the competition’s opening day and regained his position as the top points scorer with an imperious victory in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

Not only is he top on points – the 52.82 from Saturday taking him on to 74.16 – but he is also the most popular pick in the competition, which is probably partly due to his readiness for the fray from flagfall. He keeps showing up and he keeps doing the job, with 16 wins from 19 races.

L’Eau Du Sud has a long way to go before achieving that sort of strike-rate but he is now 3-3 over fences and two of those count towards this competition, including Saturday’s Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase.

He collected 26.91 points there for 2.1% of players to add to 23.01 from his Arkle Trial victory.

That puts him on 49.92 points and in fifth on the list of top-scoring horses, one slot ahead of The Yellow Clay, who added the Grade 2 Navan Novice Hurdle to earlier success in the Grade 3 Monksfield Novice Hurdle. He picks up 22.47 points to take his tally to 40.30 points but for only 0.5% of players.

Considerably more popular and featuring in 6.9% of competition teams is Energumene, although the dual Champion Chase winner would have been in many more lists in the seasons when the best of his career lay before him.

Now approaching 11, he ran away from a decent field in Cork’s Hilly Way Chase to collect 23.35 points.

Successful the same afternoon in Huntingdon’s Peterborough Chase, Djelo picked up 24.30 points for 0.3% of teams.

There were also victories at Sandown for Handstands in the Grade 2 Esher Novices’ Chase to gain 25.10 points for 0.1% of players, the same percentage that cheered on another Sandown scorer, Bill Joyce, in the Grade 2 Winter Novices’ Hurdle to earn 26.90 points for 0.1% of teams.
