York Placepot picks: Paul Kealy has a 48-line perm for the competitive card
With no novice races and a minimum of three places in each race, York is the most appealing meeting for a Placepot. But given the frequency of shock results on the Knavesmire, it isn't going to be easy.
Crownthorpe and Eagleway are the two I recommend including in the opening mile handicap (1.45). Eagleway finished a creditable second at a huge price in the Victoria Cup before crossing the line just behind Crownthorpe at Newcastle. That looks solid form.
The quality in the staying handicap (2.55) is modest, but former Ebor winner Nakeeta has been running well and remains capable off his current mark. Arabist has become well treated and could also run well now back on easy ground.
The first four nurseries run this season went to one of the top two in the weights and Red Power appeals more than Meng Tian in this one (3.30). The Tim Easterby-trained Atomic Lady is going the right way and should relish an extra furlong, so also warrants selection.
Main selections Surrey Pride and Johnny Drama are joined in the John Smith's Cup (4.05) by Bright Start, who rarely finishes out of the frame and looks competitively weighted if he can transfer his all-weather form to turf.
That just leaves the City Walls (4.40). If I'm still in the Placepot by then I'll be relying on Winter Power. She went off miles too fast in the King's Stand and didn't get home, but this easier 5f on ground with cut is perfect. She'll be very hard to kick out of the frame.

1 Red Power
7 Atomic Lady
13 Johnny Drama
16 Surrey Pride
18 Bright Start
11 Winter Power
2x2x2x2x3x1 = 48 lines
