BANKER

Bombshell Bay(2.45 Chepstow)

Richard Hannon's three-year-old gelding was beginning to look thoroughly exposed last season when finishing the campaign in December with a record of 0-8. However, he showed on a couple of occasions that he could score off a mark in the low 60s and it was no surprise to see him go close on his seasonal reappearance at Kempton in April when finishing third of 14 off a mark of 61. He was given his standard attacking ride that day and, although he was challenged two furlongs out, he held them all off until being passed inside the final furlong. He was stepped up to a mile last time at Windsor and, under the same tactics, he was narrowly denied, although he received the race in the stewards' room. The form looks strong for the grade with the third, Hateya, scoring twice since and he can follow up off just 3lb higher.

EYECATCHER

Nanabad (7.50 Sligo)

There are a couple of interesting younger horses in this race – Giorni Felice and Scoil Naisiunta – but doubts about the form of trainer Eddie Lynam puts me off the former, while Scoil Naisiunta is unproven over this kind of trip. Consequently, it's worth a punt on the consistent topweight, Nanabad, who makes her fourth start of the season for trainer Jarlath Fahey. The five-year-old mare struggled on her first two starts on heavy ground this year, but came back to form at Roscommon two weeks ago with a third-placed finish behind the well-treated Bianca Minola. She wasn't given the best ride that day and did amazingly well to finish in the frame behind two useful sorts. She's been left on the same mark for this and the step up in trip will suit.
