Willie Mullins has a 32 per cent strike-rate with new recruits on the Flat. Chelkar fits the bill in the Ascot Stakes at 5.00. His trainer excels with horses who have their first runs as geldings (14-25, 56 per cent strike-rate). Ryan Moore has won three of the last six renewals when riding for the trainer.

It pays to follow the Mark Johnston and William Buick combination at Ascot, who unite for a solid 27 per cent strike-rate. I Am A Dreamer represents the pair in a competitive-looking Coventry Stakes at 3.05. The son of Dream Ahead has won his last two since stepping up to 6f and this battle-hardened colt may out-run his odds.

John Gosden has his runners in great form heading into Royal Ascot – he has been operating at a 33 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight. The trainer has won the Wolferton Stakes (5.35) three times in the last ten years and his representative Muntahaa is of interest. This will be his easiest test in some time and the drop in distance could be what he needs to get his head back in front.
