What is Tote Survivor?

Survivor is a new bet from the Tote that will take place every Saturday.

To take part in Survivor, players must pick their most likely winners from six specified races.

After the first race any player who has not selected the winner will be eliminated. This continues until there is one player left in the pool.

If multiple players reach the same leg of the Tote Survivor pool the pot will be shared between them.

Winning Tote Survivor

To win Survivor you need to hold the ticket that gets furthest through the six races in the bet. To do that, players must name as many consecutive winners from the first selected race of the day to stay in as long as possible.

If at any point, there is just one ticket on a winning horse of any race, the player who holds that ticket will be the winner of Tote Survivor and will take the entire pot.

If any race in Survivor is won by a horse not picked by the players remaining, all ticket holders who reached that leg will be deemed joint winners and will share the pot, proportionate to their stake.

Should more than one player name all six winners in the Tote Survivor those players will share the pool.

Choosing your horses

Making your selections for Tote Survivor is a balancing act between picking the most likely winners and those horses who might go under the radar.

Pick a favourite you think will progress easily and it’s likely so too will a large proportion of your rivals. The greater the number of players who get through means a smaller winning dividend.

On the other hand, while picking an outsider may mean you need to double-up or treble your selections in a race to stay in the hunt, if that big-priced horse succeeds many rivals could be eliminated.

Multiple lines

Players of Tote Survivor have the option of picking just one horse in each race but can add more than one runner in any of the six legs. Doing so increases your total stake but provides better chances of winning a share of the pool.

To calculate your total stake, just multiply the number of selections in each leg.

For example

Leg 1: 2 selections

Leg 2: 1 selection

Leg 3: 1 selection

Leg 4: 2 selections

Leg 5: 3 selections

Leg 6: 2 selection

2 x 1 x 1 x 2 x 3 x 2 = 24 lines

Minimum stake

The minimum stake per line for Survivor is 50p and you can place just one line if you choose.

As with all Tote bets, the dividend will be declared to a £1 stake.

The unnamed favourite

It is also possible to pick the unnamed favourite in any leg as your selection. This means you’ll be on the starting-price favourite at the time the race goes off.

Backing the unnamed favourite can be a smart strategy where the betting is volatile and the market could be a useful indicator of a horse’s chance.

If in a race there are joint- or co-favourites, the unnamed favourite will apply to the horse with the lowest racecard number of those co-favourites.

Placing a Survivor bet

The Tote Survivor is available only at Tote.co.uk. To play, select Multi-Leg Bets from the Bet Types dropdown menu and then select Tote Survivor.

You will be taken to the racecard for the first leg of the bet. Add your selections for that leg and continue until you have at least one horse in each race. Once you have made your selections, add your stake to the bet slip and place your bet. Remember, your stake will be multiplied by the number of lines in your bet.
