Tom Segal is happy to keep his Sandown Placepot perm to just eight lines
One who looks sure to go well in the opening 5f sprint handicap at Sandown (12.00) is King Robert, who was a big eyecatcher over this course and distance last time.
However, he is drawn wide in stall nine and it’s not worth using a banker in an open-looking first leg, so it is advised to include Indian Raj, who is better than he showed last time.
Yibir sets a high standard in the following juvenile maiden (12.35). He might find one of the newcomers too good, but it would be a huge surprise if he didn’t finish in the frame.
Fair Praise shaped well in a better race than the 7f maiden (1.10) on her debut and should at least hit the frame. She is also banker material.
It gets trickier from there with three competitive handicaps in a row. Henry Candy’s Blessed ran well over course and distance on his handicap debut and gets weight all round in the 0-75 event (1.45). He goes in along with Alfie Solomons, who ran well in a similar race here last time and might be the type who is underestimated for Placepot purposes.
The Queen’s Formality was tried in Listed company against subsequent French Derby winner Mishriff at the start of the season, and clearly didn’t stay 1m2f last time. He could be well handicapped back at a mile in the Cobham Handicap (2.20). It would be risky to bank on him, however, so add Calatrava as well.
By My Side was a bit unlucky not to win over course and distance last time and, with Cieren Fallon taking 3lb off, she looks sure to run well in the Placepot finale (2.50).
