Tom Collins outlines his fancies for a Newbury Placepot worth winning
Ladbrokes Trophy day provides one of the biggest Placepot pools of the season outside of the Cheltenham Festival and, given the competitive look to the card, the perm should pay rather handsomely.
For that to happen there needs to be a few upsets. The first of which could be Mrs Hyde failing to make the frame in the opening mares' novice hurdle (12.10). Instead, hat-trick-seeker Galice Macalo and Irish raider Politesse are chosen.
Kapcorse should relish the good ground in the 2m6½f handicap chase (1.15), which he won two years ago, while Champagne Court and Highest Sun can bounce back from disappointing efforts and are worth including at bigger prices.
Classy Christopher Wood and the well-handicapped Tea Clipper should take us through leg four (1.50). Similar thoughts apply to the speedy Milkwood and Thyme White in leg five (2.25), both of whom will relish a sprint finish.
Even if there are a bundle of tickets left going into the last leg, fear not as it is the Ladbrokes Trophy (3.00). I'll take Kildisart, who will love the trip, and Copperhead, who has been aimed at the race.
