Tom Collins offers a Placepot perm for a fiendishly competitive card at Ayr

With at least eight runners in each of the six Placepot contests, as well as the fact that Ayr's Wednesday afternoon fixture clearly lacks quality, the Tote dividend is likely to be worth winning if you can navigate your way through.

The most talented horse on show at the Scottish venue could be Tommy Tittlemouse in the opening 6f novice (2.10). He won well on debut at Hamilton and should go close under a penalty as he bids to maintain his unbeaten record. Patsy Fagan, who will have improved since his first effort on the all-weather, is also included.

The following 6f handicap (2.40) is named after Jordan Electrics, who will probably have been targeted at this and has to be selected. Never In Paris, who has had no luck in two runs this year, and the improving Devil's Angel are also taken.

Hachert looks banker material in division one of the 0-60 handicap (3.10), while improving three-year-olds Inductive and Joe's Way are chosen in division two (3.40).

Danny Tudhope rides Ayr as well as anyone and he partners How Bizarre in the penultimate leg (4.10). Course specialist Start Time can also hit the frame at a big price.

The concluding Placepot race (4.40) looks a minefield with very little recent form on show. Arnold is probably the safest option, while a chance is taken on the unexposed Captain Corcoran.
