The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Thursday
Anyone who follows thisThe Punt on a daily basiswill know that I'm a huge fan of Martyn Meade's King Ademar and have tipped him on his last four starts (to no avail, although his first victory will come sooner rather than later). He's a really talented horse and looked likely to win on his penultimate outing at Nottingham but bumped into this three-year-old colt, who battled on gamely from the front to deny the King. Ouzo has shown himself to be a pretty decent horse this season and was extremely well handicapped that day, winning off 11lb lower than his new rating, which he was awarded after supplementing his Nottingham victory at Sandown 13 days ago. He bolted up that day despite the drop in trip to 7f not suiting him and can rack up the hat-trick here. It's a tougher field and he will go off favourite but he's on the up and gets the weight-for-age allowance.
El Astronaute(7.45 Curragh)
British-trained horses have a good record in the Rockingham handicap and although the market won't miss El Astronaute, he looks the most likely winner and is clearly firing on all cylinders of late. John Quinn's sprinter has to give weight away all round and is competing off a joint career-high mark, but really impressed me when making all in a Cork Listed race last time and holds a number of these on form. He has no problems carrying big weights (won under 9st 11lb last time) and is likely to lead these a merry dance from the outset. Orvar, who really caught the eye at York last time, rates the main danger.
The closing 1m2f maiden at the Curragh looks a good punting race asJim Bolger's Grinn should be clear favourite and I was astounded at the forecast price of 4-1. The three-year-old filly has improved for each of her three starts, and has stamped herself as a winner in waiting on her last two runs, especially last time when runner-up to the useful Anya Ylina. Dermot Weld is going straight to stakes races with her and although she readily beat Grinn, the way Bolger's runner travelled through the race suggested she has plenty of ability. The form of that race has been boosted since, with the third and fifth racking up three and six-and-a-half-length victories on their next starts.
