The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Monday
The Grape Escape(2.55 Pontefract)
Richard Hannon doesn't send many runners up to Pontefract (3-14 in the last five years) and The Grape Escape looks likely to pay for the petrol in the 0-95 mile handicap. Winning very impressively when back from a break at Sandown last month, the Sean Levey-ridden three-year-old travelled like a dream through the contest before having to be switched five horses wide from the rail to eventually make his challenge. He picked up really well when asked and the first two pulled three lengths clear of their rivals. He may be best when fresh, but he has a nice draw in stall two and the race could be run to suit.
Air Of York is likely to go off a short price in his bid to complete a quickfire double under 7lb claimer William Cox, but it could be wise to follow the unexposed Vixen. Eve Johnson Houghton has been in great form all year and her three-year-old daughter of Kodiac comes here on the back of a career-best performance when second at this course three weeks ago. She only lost out on the nod that day and was miles clear of her other rivals, suggesting she's a winner waiting to happen.
Just by looking at his recent form figures, Lacan wouldn't be the first on your list of bets for the day. Since joining Brett Johnson from Ralph Beckett in March this year, Lacan has achieved placings of 9990699, which is hardly inspiring. However he has dropped 16lb in the weights in the meantime and the booking of 7lb claimer Rossa Ryan helps his cause. He definitely has ability and he's extremely well treated on his past exploits– let's just hope he's on a going day today.
