The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Friday
Leading Spirit(4.10 Goodwood)
Bumped into three useful types in his runs in novice company but following a gelding operation, he absolutely hacked up in a Newbury nursery contest last week by three and a quarter lengths. He travelled like a horse well ahead of his mark that day under James Doyle and is unsurprisingly turned out quickly under a penalty, which allows him to run off 10lb lower than he would do under his reassessed mark. His draw in stall one is the only slight negative, but he looks classy enough to overcome that and win with plenty in hand.
Richard Hannon's gelding was consistent without showing signs of improving off marks in the low 70s last season, but has progressed as a four-year-old and recorded a career-best performance when winning over this course and distance last month. He had little luck in running that day but picked up well when the gaps opened and won quite cosily by the line. He's just 4lb higher here, should get the race run to suit with Trulee Scrumptious in the field and the fact James Doyle retains the ride is encouraging.
Gizi Gazelle (5.45 Galway)
Eamonn O'Connell's Gizi Gazelle showed nothing in maiden company last season but is another to have improved since being sent handicapping and won with plenty in hand when last seen at Tipperary in May. That came off a mark of 50 under Declan McDonogh, but she recorded a pretty-impressive RPR of 69 and she was geared down a long way before the line. The break will have freshened her up for this contest and, although she's running off 13lb higher, Dylan Hogan's presence in the saddle removes more than half of the rise. Stall six is a plus and the testing conditions won't phase her.
