Sweetspots: Scott McCullagh’s appointment looks good for Dr Smolder

Nottingham racecourse: scene of the latest on-course blunder
1 of 1

Jockey Scott McCullagh looks a talented rider for Mick Channon (4-11) and good value for his 7lb claim. One of his winners came at Nottingham and Dr Smolder could be his second there in the 1m1/2f nursery  (5.50).

Ivan Furtado is 4-15 with runners wearing first-time cheekpieces and 7-32 (+£39.50) with handicap debutants. Alleedsaren’Twe (7.25 Nottingham) qualifies on both counts and is worth a second look in the betting.

Silca Mistress has run well from the front over 7f this year and the return to 6f at Nottingham (8.30) should suit. Adam Kirby, operating at a 21 per cent strike-rate on three-year-olds here, travels from Newbury to take the ride.
