Signposts: Newland duo look in for the long haul at Sedgefield
Brian Ellison and Henry Brooke have individual strike-rates of 24 and 17 per cent at Sedgefield. However, that increases to a healthy 45 per cent when they team up and they are represented today by topweight Viens Chercher in the 3.10.
In the past decade Richard Newland has an overall 19 per cent strike-rate, but when sending runners on a journey of 200-plus miles that rises to 39 per cent (60-162). Two of his horses make the 201-mile trek to Sedgefield – Beau Bay (1.40) and Aaron Lad (2.10).
Curragh-based trainer Alan Fleming has a 33 per cent strike-rate (8-24) at Naas and saddles As You Were (2.50) and Mount Pelier (4.20) there today.
