Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Cartmel

3.40: Mah Mate Bob

Having come so close to winning the same course and distance event for the second year running last month, and still well below the mark last defied in May 2021 despite a 2lb re-raise, Mah Mate Bob gets the nod over Darius Des Sources, the latter finding his way back since wind surgery and much better again last time at Perth. Hailing from an immediate family full of chase scorers, Post No Bills is also worth consideration now facing fences.
Jeremy Grayson

Chester

6.50: Sir Oliver

Most of these have something to prove but triple turf winner Sir Oliver found more progress with his brave success on Polytrack last time and is a major player again off a lower mark back in this sphere. Ed Dunlop's three-year-old Manhattanville has finished runner-up behind improvers in his last two starts and is a big danger if he gets the breaks. Third choice is Ventura Rascal, who was not far behind Manhattanville at Thirsk last time, while another to keep an eye on is Jilly Cooper.
David Moon

Curragh

5.35: Never Ending Story

Some nice types in here, particularly the newcomer Dower House who is a sister to Churchill. However, stablemate Never Ending Story is preferred after a nice debut here last month and with the prospect of her coming on for that run, she's the one to beat. Aspen Grove caught the eye on debut and should improve over this longer trip. Phill Anderson

Doncaster

4.30: Hurt You Never

Top weight Almodovar Del Rio would have claims if reproducing his best all-weather form on turf, but that's not guaranteed and Hilary's Boy, who is 1lb below his last winning mark, looks a better option. However, the two to concentrate on are Eruption and Hurt You Never, with ready preference for Adrian Nicholls' runner, who chased home a speedy, progressive rival last time and remains feasibly handicapped. Keith McHugh

Newcastle

5.30: Mango Boy

Chief's Will (second choice) and Fiorina are three-year-olds to consider, while Clear Angel won well last time and still has more to come over this trip. Jewel Maker is another possible, but Mango Boy wasn't seen to best effect when winning at Yarmouth last month and he could yet rate higher.
Paul Smith

Newmarket

8.10: Origintrail

The improving Origintrail was clear with a subsequent winner last time and should cope with a 7lb rise. She's taken to complete a hat-trick. It looks quite open among the remainder and Ex Gratia is just a tentative second choice, ahead of Dubai Jewel. Handicap debutante Razeyna has possibilities provided she's suited by the drop in distance.
Steve Boow

Yarmouth

1.45: Lenny's Spirit

McCann The Man, Red Evelyn, Anglo Saxson and Channel Packet have all been turned over at short prices more than once in recent times and three of them are being tried in a new form of headgear this afternoon. Perhaps best then to stick to the obvious, with the 3lb well-in Lenny's Spirit fancied to follow up his Nottingham win at the main expense of the consistent Dark Design.
