Mullins chaser Bachasson a worthy Gold Cup outsider at a juicy 33-1
Lightly raced seven-year-old is improving
With the Gold Cup picture looking murkier than ever, it is worth backing Willie Mullins' unexposed second-season chaser Bachasson at 33-1 non-runner no-bet.
The lightly raced seven-year-old is improving fast and, with just five chase starts under his belt, there should be plenty more to come.
The way he powered away from solid yardstick A Toi Phil over 2m5f at Tramore last time out gives hope that he can stay the Gold Cup trip and that form puts him close to last year's winner Sizing John.
He acts on any ground and his jumping is getting better with every run.
The Ryanair is clearly an option as well, but he is in the same ownership as Un De Sceaux, who will surely go for the latter race unless the ground comes up soft.
Mullins has plenty of Gold Cup possibles, but none of them are outstanding and it wouldn't surprise me if this one turned out to be the pick of Ruby Walsh.
Whoever is in the saddle, he will surely go off a good deal shorter if lining up, especially with Walsh on board. If not, we get our money back.
