Cardsharp trades high on way to trumping rivals

Cardsharp traded at a high-looking 28 on his way to winning the July Stakes at Newmarket. The victory improved Mark Johnston to 6-20 with his runners in Group/Listed races on the July course in the last five seasons.

Maid In India was matched at 140 in the 6f maiden at Doncaster, but she stayed on best of all to get up in the final strides from Decision Maker, who was done at 1.08.

I backed Tommy Taylor at 20 before the 6f handicap at Newmarket, but
got my hopes up only slightly after he hit the front approaching the final furlong. Kevin Ryan’s gelding, who was backed down to 1.46, was never more than half a length up and there was a certain inevitability about the way Ekhtiyaar wore him down up the hill.
