US racing tips: Tom Collins with his fancies for the Belmont Derby and Oaks

Higher Truth
9.06 Belmont Park
1pt each-way

Bolshoi Ballet
10.12 Belmont Park
2pts win

Bolshoi Ballet and Santa Barbara were the talk of Epsom heading into the Cazoo Derby and Oaks respectively. They failed to produce the goods there, but Aidan O'Brien has not given up on a coveted three-year-old prize with either just yet.

The Ballydoyle trainer ships the pair to New York and may well leave with a seven-figure pay out and two victories. The strongest of the two is Bolshoi Ballet, who bolted up in the Ballysax and Derrinstown at Leopardstown over this 1m2f trip earlier in the season before picking up a laceration on his hind leg in the Derby.

That unfortunate incident was given as the excuse as to why he failed to perform at Epsom. Providing he bounces back to something like his best, Bolshoi Ballet is fancied to prove a class above his eight rivals in the Belmont Derby (10.12), a race O'Brien won in 2016 with Deauville.

Santa Barbara has far more to prove in the Belmont Oaks (9.06), but it's a weak field. I've been disappointed by her this term and although she's the most likely winner, the value play is to oppose her with Higher Truth.

This Galileo filly cost connections 500,000gns in 2019 and is starting to live up to her price tag after maiden-special-weight and allowance victories at this track.

She beat some pretty sharp rivals last time and has worked well in the interim. Given she's on a sharp upward curve, represents leading connections and has drawn an inside gate, Higher Truth should go close to upsetting the Ballydoyle raiding party.
