Tom Collins analyses the credentials of four favourites at Gulfstream Park

Policy Option
5.45 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 2-1

Bought for $240,000 as a yearling, Policy Option made a good start to his racing career for trainer Chad Brown when second in a competitive maiden special weight contest at Saratoga last August. That race has thrown up plenty of subsequent winners. He wasn't as good next time out but endured a rough trip and now returns in maiden claiming company.

Conclusion Drops in class, Irad Ortiz aboard, good draw in gate two and plenty of works under his belt. Good price.

Nowitna River
6.45 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 7-5

Tricky horse to assess given all of her winning form has come at Finger Lakes, but she ran well in a short stint at Aqueduct before two outings at this venue. They came over sprint trips but she could barely raise a gallop in the early stages on those attempts before flying late. Upped to a mile now and could prove in a league of her own.

Conclusion Banker material now stepped up in distance.

Fiamma Mamma
8.16 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 8-5

Cheap two-year-old but she has found her level in lowly mile claimers and deserves to get a second win under her belt after a number of consistent placed efforts. Often shows good early speed and is proven on a fast and sloppy main track. Joseph Trejos, who claims 5lb, got on well with her last time and he retains the mount.

Conclusion Should make all from gate four.

Gioielli
8.49 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 8-5

Looked a useful prospect for Todd Pletcher in 2018 when winning a maiden special weight contest here, but has had her problems since and appears to have gone downhill. Claimed by Jose D'Angelo after her latest third when dropped to this grade and now back on dirt. Has drawn well in gate one but not a mare to trust.

Conclusion I will look to take her on at the forecast price.
