GOOD THING

Audarya(3.25 Newcastle)

Roger Varian's Mutasaamy looks tough to beat in this field but he may have bumped into a well-handicapped filly in Audarya, who should improve for the fitting of a first-time tongue-tie. James Fanshawe's unexposed four-year-old won a couple of races last year, including a Goodwood handicap off 87, before ending her season on a high when second in a Saint-Cloud Listed event. She should have won that day but was short for room at a crucial point. Audarya has run well on both starts this season and now drops down in class and reverts to the all-weather.

EYECATCHER

(12.35 Sandown)

Only four of the ten-strong field in this maiden have experience and they all look pretty vulnerable to a sharp newcomer. The one that stands out is Andrew Balding's King Vega, who cost 350,000gns at Tattersalls in October and is expected to know his job on debut. Balding struck with a couple of Lope De Vega's progeny on their first outing last year, including one at this track, and King Vega could prove a value play if underestimated in the market.
