The Punt Daily: Robbie Wilders' free horse racing tip at Goodwood on Wednesday

BANKER

Willie John (1.50 Goodwood)

Roger Varian-trained five-year-old who has been slightly inconsistent in his ten-race career thus far. Willie John was a disappointing 14th of 16 on his last start at Ascot but I'm happy to draw a line through that run as 7f is a bit sharp for him and the Berkshire course has never been his track. His two other visits to Ascot have yielded disappointing 19th and 14th-placed finishes in the Royal Hunt Cup and Wolferton and crucially the selection now returns to Goodwood. He has recorded his two finest performances on RPRs at the idiosyncratic West Sussex track, with a second to the top-class Elarqam in Listed company last year and a decent showing in a mile handicap at Glorious Goodwood when fourth off 100 two starts ago. He goes off 1lb lower than for that encouraging effort and this six-runner contest is comfortably the lowest-quality race he has contested since his earlier days in novice company. Willie John brings a class edge to this mile handicap and should take all the beating.
