Southwell Placepot picks: Tom Segal with three bankers on all-weather card

The best races on the Southwell card are undoubtedly the two divisions of the fillies' novice stakes and Ducal Crown (1.25), who was well backed on her debut at Kempton, is clearly the one to beat in the first division.

The second division (2.00) looks slightly less competitive and Social Contact should improve for her recent Wolverhampton run. She should win.

Hopefully all five line up in the opening Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Fillies' Handicap (12.25) for the extra place and the topweight Lower Street will appreciate the extra furlong having been caught out of her ground over a furlong shorter here last month. Given a good pace to run, at she's the one to beat.

The other three handicaps that make up the Placepot are much more complicated but Devasboy was an easy winner at Newcastle earlier in the week and has to go well again under a 6lb penalty in the Play Coral Racing-Super-Series For Free Handicap (3.00).

Neat And Dandy is on a roll and if Devasboy sets a strong pace, he will be finishing off well so he goes in too.

Masqool enjoyed no luck whatsoever over course and distance a week ago and is worth another chance in the MansionBet Proud Partners Of The AWC Handicap (12.55). He's drawn wide, though, so I would include Clipsham Tiger as well.

The MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap (2.30) is not a great race and there are loads who can be fancied if they put their best foot forward. The consistent Abnaa should run well again and Red Jasper can be included under David Probert.
