Pontefract Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his picks for Monday's meeting

The ground is on the soft side at Pontefract and horses who act with ease will be the key.

The first leg of the Placepot, the 1m2f novice (1.25), will be a test of stamina for the juveniles and only two places are on offer. Don’t take any chances and put both Midnight Lion and Forceful Speed into the perm.

The 6f nursery (1.55) is another tough race to negotiate. Borough might improve for the step up to this trip and Shandy Star is well suited by a stiff finish. Put both in and hope for a small upset.

My Silent Song looks solid for a place in the mile handicap (2.30) but it’s also worth including Dungar Glory. She likes cut in the ground and is suited by a stiff test at the trip.

Flint Hill is one of my best bets of the day and rates a banker in the 2m2f handicap (3.05), while in the following mile handicap (3.40) it’s worth going with Tangled and Gainsbourg.

Sobegrand will be hard to beat in the 1m4f maiden (4.15) but Aegis Power can also go well.
