Nottingham Placepot picks: Richard Birch's fancies for the evening action

Abate has been knocking hard on the door in fiercely-contested sprint handicaps this summer, and may have found an ideal opening in Nottingham’s 5f handicap (5.45).

Paul Midgley’s Latin Five, who is beginning to look well treated, should also be included in Placepot perms.

Norman Kindu, fresh from a 48-day break, could resume his spring progress in the 1m6f handicap (6.15) for three-year-olds under Danny Tudhope.

Thirsk eyecatcher Desert Quest may not be entirely straightforward, but he receives plenty of weight all round and is much respected. Nottingham’s long straight should suit this powerful galloper well.

Tristan Davidson can be relied upon to squeeze more improvement out of De Mazzaro now the Musselburgh winner steps up in trip in the 1m6f handicap (6.45) for older horses.

The dropped-in-class Professional Widow, most recently seen in Class 2 Royal Ascot and Newmarket events, and consistent Celtic Empress stand out in the 1m½f fillies’ handicap (7.15).

Secret To Success and Admirable Lad make most appeal in the 6f handicap (7.50), while last Tuesday's runaway Beverley scorer Contrast holds outstanding claims of a follow-up success in the apprentice handicap (8.20) even though the ground will be much faster this time.
