Newcastle Placepot picks: Paul Kealy provides his perm for terrific evening card

With only one novice event on the card, Newcastle looks the best place for a Placepot, and in the opener (5.40) I'll be taking on likely favourite Tarroob.

He looked promising in three starts last year, but the win came over 1m2f and he was outpaced dropping back to a mile for his first handicap in December.

He's entitled to do better with time, but , who has some good Newcastle form this year and was just touched off on turf last time, is much preferred.

He goes in with , who has put in two promising runs in novices this season.

The next (6.10) is hard as two of the main contenders (Nibras Again and Tantastic) were down to run on Thursday.

They could easily run again, but assuming they don't, and Ballyarewould be the selections. The latter is well treated on the pick of his all-weather form, while the former won very easily at Chelsmford last time.

In the Gosforth Park Cup (6.45) I'll be going for hold-up performers Venturousand , while in the following Group 3 (7.20) I'll leave it the William Haggas-trained pair Lilac Road and .

The next (7.55) is tough, but ycomes here after back-to-back career bests, and can be joined by , who has been at the top of his form lately, albeit for another stable.

There are plenty of promising sorts in the final leg novice (8.25), but Wishaahwas a really taking scorer from a previous winner on his debut and it will take three good ones to keep him out of the frame.
