Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings

Selections from Carlisle, Ludlow, Newton Abbott, Thurles and Wolverhampton

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Carlisle

3.40: Present Chief

Dual hurdle winner Present Chief (nap) caught the eye when a promising third over fences at Worcester and can open his account in this sphere now. Topweight Oscar Montel arrives in good order and is feared most back chasing off an easing mark. Event Of Sivola is third choice on his seasonal return.
Peter Entwistle

Ludlow

2.40: Lucky Robin

The veteran of the line-up, Lucky Robin (nap), won in a higher grade than this on his last hurdle start and he's just 2lb higher today. He gets the nod ahead of Edinburgh Castle, who has been a bit disappointing in this code but has still shown solid form in today's context. Kensington Art could also run well.
Ben Hutton

Newton Abbot

1.38: Martha Brae

She was out of form over fences when last seen in the spring but Dan Skelton's new recruit Martha Brae (nap) reverts to hurdling on a very attractive mark and gets the nod. Doyen Queen has something to prove on soft or heavy ground but her seasonal debut was promising and her pedigree makes her an interesting candidate for today's step up in trip. My Lady Grey is next on the list.
Chris Wilson

Thurles

1.45: Clody Valley

Not many of these come into the race in prime form. One that does is Clody Valley (nap) and a reproduction of his two most recent efforts at Downpatrick and Killarney should be good enough. With conditions in his favour, his Tramore conqueror Caridadi might put it up to him.
Justin O'Hanlon

Wolverhampton

7.30: Newyorkstateofmind

Blue De Vega is likely to run his usual solid race back on Tapeta but he went up the weights for his recent Leicester win and it might be worth going with Newyorkstateofmind (nap) on only his second start here, having looked well suited by the surface when a cosy winner over C&D in August. Mondammej is also respected with the likely strong pace in his favour.
Emily Weber
