Chester Placepot tips: Tom Segal provides his perm for the card

The fields are pretty small at Chester but that is not always a bad thing as far as the Placepot is concerned because a good percentage of the lines can go out in one leg if there is a surprise result.

The best chance of that comes in the three-runner conditions race for two-year-olds (4.15) because likely favourite Maglev might actually have the worst form. So it might be a good tactic to include the other two runners, Mot And The Messer and Global Wisdom.

Tom Dascombe trains Mot And The Messer and is always a trainer to follow at Chester. He has two good chances in the opening nursery (2.10), with Roman Dragon marginally preferred to Devious Angel.

The two previous winners might struggle to beat Nuance under their penalties in the Chester FC Welcomes Fans Back EBF Novice Stakes (2.40), while it might be worth siding with course winner Judicial over Dakota Gold in the Listed sprint (3.10).

The two older horse handicaps are wide open but Marwan Koukash seldom leaves Chester without a winner and his pair Heart Of Soul and Gabrial The One will be hard to keep out of the frame in the Chester Marathon Handicap (3.45).

Hopefully all eight will turn up in the #TheCrew Children's Air Ambulance Kids Club Handicap (4.45) for the extra place but it is still worth including a couple. Course specialists Revich and Lincoln Park fit the bill.
