DARK HORSE

Tukhoom(4.05 Doncaster)

Michael Herrington has done a great job booking Jane Elliott to ride his unexposed Tukhoom, who makes just his sixth appearance for the trainer having moved from Marcus Tregoning's yard in the spring. Since winning a Goodwood maiden in June 2016 for previous connections, Tukhoom has shown little in handicap company and his mark has duly dropped like a stone. However, connections evidently felt he was well handicapped when he was smashed up in the betting prior to running over 7f here last month on his first start for 378 days, and he ran a great race to finish second behind the favourite Pursuing Steed. The drop back in trip will suit and he could still be well treated despite being raised a rather harsh 4lb for that effort.

EACH-WAY PLAY

Wasntexpectingthat (3.35 Doncaster)

There's plenty of value in this big-field sales race and trainer Richard Fahey often lays one or two juveniles out for this each year. Consequently, it's definitely worth having a few quid each-way on his Wasntexpectingthat, who is likely to be a big price despite having plenty of upside about his chance. The son of Foxwedge showed a lot of ability on his first two starts, when third in the Brocklesby before taking second behind subsequent National Stakes winner Vintage Brut in a Thirsk maiden. Both those runs came with give in the ground, which he's likely to get here. He won two starts back, before running a career-best when fifth last time out in a good field. He finally gets stepped up in trip, which is sure to suit, and looks the pick of the weights.
