The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with one to follow on Tuesday
BANKER
Mackaar(7.10 Newbury)
Roger Varian is in red-hot form and his last eight runners (saddled two on Monday night that aren't included) have recorded form figures of 11635111, which includes a couple of Royal Ascot successes. His sole representative today is Mackaar, who, as the sole three-year-old in the 1m4f handicap at Newbury, receives a whopping 14lb from his elders. The highest rated horse in the race but able to run off just 9st 2lb, Mackaar has to have a huge chance of regaining the winning thread after a down-the-field effort in the London Gold Cup last time. We all know how well the form of that particular race tends to work out and this represents a step down in grade. He previously finished fourth in a Listed Derby trial and if he's anywhere near that form we will see him hack up.
