Play safe in feature John Durkan by selecting high-class duo

The current form of Joseph O'Brien's team makes Gowran maiden winner Ballyneety an obvious choice in the opening rated novice hurdle. He is also the least exposed runner in the five-runner field, in which Rachael Blackmore's mount Due Reward is probably the main danger and should also be included.

Grade 1 bumper winner Tornado Flyer stands out in the 2m4f maiden hurdle. His trainer Willie Mullins has won this race with a short-priced favourite for the last three years and it makes sense to bank on him.

Lightly-weighted four-year-old Party Playboy looks interesting for Tony Mullins in the following 2m4f handicap hurdle in light of a promising third over 2m in his first handicap.

Pat Flynn's Jake Peter maintained the progress he has shown on the Flat with a maiden hurdle win at Thurles, and Smithscorner is another who has been on the upgrade lately.

Sunday's Punchestown card

With last season's Ryanair winner Balko Des Flos under a bit of a cloud after his reappearance at Down Royal, the five-runner John Durkan Memorial Chase could boil down to a match between Champion Chase and Melling Chase runner-up Min and top-class mare Shattered Love, whose Down Royal run gives her a possible fitness edge.

Getabird had mixed fortune as a novice hurdler last season and is hard to get away from in the beginners' chase, but it's worth having a saver on Ministerforsport, who could go well at a big price. The 139-rated hurdler has run well when fresh.

The consistent Se Mo Laoch and Snugsborough Hall, a course hurdles winner running in his first handicap chase, make plenty of appeal in the final leg.
