Much-improved chaser this season and unbeaten in two starts under Henry Brooke. This is toughest test yet but open to further progress and forecast rain in his favour. Fancied to give a good account for in-form yard.

Racing Post Ratings: Steve Mason

Springtown Lake (4.50 Cheltenham, nap)

The recent rains and the return to a left-handed track look significant positives for the Springtown Lake, who is clear top-rated on the strength of his Haydock second to the smart Mr Whipped. An official rating of 141 looks generous and his stable has made a bright start to the month.

Topspeed: Dave Edwards

Al Dancer (1.30 Cheltenham, nap)

Unbeaten in four starts over hurdles, has improved his Topspeed rating each time and Nigel Twiston-Davies' rising star can maintain his unblemished record.

Longshot: Neil McCabe

Brain Power (3.30 Cheltenham)

Produced arguably a career best performance when winning here last time out, if in the same form could go well at a big each-way price.

Ireland: Tony O'Hehir

Up For Review (2.50 Cheltenham)

Willie Mullins can break his handicap chase duck at the festival with Up For Review, who ran well last time out behind Invitation Only in the Goffs Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park in January. Rated 146 on that occasion, he races off the same mark today and the ten-year-old gets the vote to score under Paul Townend.

The Raceform Interactive nugget

Jamie Codd has ridden seven winners from 27 rides at the Cheltenham festival in the last ten years and a £1 win bet on each of his mounts would have resulted in a profit of £31.83. He looks an interesting booking for Ben Pauling on Le Breuil (his first ride for the yard) in the National Hunt Chase at 5.30.
