Bank on The Holy One to get you through the opening leg

Credit: Edward Whitaker

The Holy One has outstanding claims for Jessica Harrington in the first race at Thurles (12.30). An official rating of 123 should be more than enough to win a maiden at this venue, and The Holy One proved the near-accuracy of his mark by finishing third in a 2m handicap at Leopardstown after Christmas. Three days later he flopped in a 2m4f maiden, but the trip was probably too far, and the race may have come too soon.

The novice hurdle (1.00) has attracted only four runners, one of whom was in action on Saturday. First Approach has obtained useful experience in Graded races, but Limerick maiden winner Cool Saint will not be a pushover.

The King Of Brega and Like An Open Book, winner and third respectively at the venue a month ago, may fight out the 2m handicap hurdle (1.35), though it is worth including Ask Nile as a more speculative prospect.

The Willie Mullins-trained Total Recall has good prospects of confirming Tramore form with stablemate Invitation Only in the Grade 2 chase (2.10). He could be tested by Noel Meade's Troytown Chase winner Tout Est Permis, potentially the most progressive horse in the race.

Camelia De Cotte has won four of her five races over fences for Willie Mullins, but may not have things all her own way in the featured mares' chase (2.40). Former stablemate Meri Devie merits respect having won well at Naas on her first run for Paul Nolan.

Gordon Elliott's novice Roaring Bull takes on well exposed types in his first handicap chase (3.15) and looks fairly treated.
