Haydock Placepot picks: Paul Kealy tackles a fiercely competitive card

It was a weak race Songo won on his return from a year out at Bath and the opener at Haydock (1.25) looks a much tougher heat.

He's just about favourite but I can leave him out of Placepot consideration, with consistent pair and preferred. The former, second on his last three starts, now goes in cheekpieces and is very well handicapped on old form.

Bandinelli is a worthy favourite in the next (2.00), but I do expect both and to run well, so they're the selections in the hope of getting this jolly out of the frame as well.

I wouldn't be in a rush to throw out in the third (2.35), though, and he goes in with my each-way play , who could have been laid out for this.

and are my two in a competitive Sandy Lane (3.10), while a chance must be taken on getting Winter Power out of the frame in the Temple (3.45) given her form away from York last year is not good enough.

and are very solid at this level (the latter has some cracking course form) and they're given the nod.

That just leaves a tricky finale (4.20) and I'll go with two again in the shape of , who has been running really well and now has useful claimer Benoit de la Sayette on board, and , who won on his side at Ripon last time and is clearly in good heart.
