Genuine looks the real deal as Lyons old boys bid to roar

2.50 Happy Valley
1pt winIrish trainer Ger Lyons knows more than most about the type of horse needed to thrive in Hong Kong and two of his former charges merit more than a passing glance at Happy Valley this Wednesday.
Mr Genuinewas known as Exogenesis when he finished third behind War Command in Group 2 company at the Curragh as a juvenile and has since developed into a smooth-travelling, reliable Class 2 sprinter on the Hong Kong circuit.
The presence of front-runners like Sea Jade, Fortune Bo Bo and Fantastic Eight will aid his cause in the Cannon Handicap (2.50), as will the return of the clinical Zac Purton to the saddle.
Add in the fact that Mr Genuine is drawn one over a trip where inside stalls tend to hold a clear advantage and anything around the 9-2 mark ought to represent very fair value.
Dinozzodidn’t dally long at Glenburnie Stables – he left Lyons to join Hong Kong champion John Size after a winning debut at Navan in 2015 – but he’s already won almost£600,000 in his new home and could add to the tally at around 10-1 in the January Cup (1.45).
An open market is assured for the Valley’s sole Group race, but Dinozzo ties in very closely with likely favourites The Golden Age and Marvel Hero on course form and a subsequent Sha Tin defeat is best excused given that he endured a notably rough trip.
In-form French rider Alexis Badel, fresh from a 900-1 double at Sha Tin on Sunday, will be determined to shine on Dinozzo and also gets the leg up on another live each-way player when Confucius Spirit contests the Great George Handicap (12.15).
Badel is working towards the end of a three-month Hong Kong contract, whereas fellow countryman Pierre-Charles Boudot is seeking to find his feet in just the second week of a short-term deal.
The former French champion lacks Badel’s ability to ride light, but his ability isn’t in doubt and the well-treatedGracydad gives him a realistic chance to shine in the 11.45 after shaping much better than the bare result suggests on both his last two starts.
