The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Friday
BANKER
The Great Wall (3.30 York)
Mick Appleby, the Horsewatchers and Silvestre de Sousa are always worth noting when they team up, especially in competitive handicaps, and The Great Wall, who is incredibly well handicapped, looks another success story waiting to happen. The team have had a fantastic time of things with recent Zetland Gold Cup winner Big Country, who came from Charles O'Brien's Irish yard, and this Irish import (formerly with Michael O'Callaghan) looks to have had this race as a target for a while. He absolutely hacked up on his debut for connections at Southwell by 19 lengths, before returning lame when a beaten favourite on his penultimate start. He had horrific trouble in running when last seen finishing sixth at Wolverhampton and now finds himself off a mark of 77 – just 5lb higher than for his British debut success. He is much better than that and the return to turf, as well as carrying just 8st 8lb, makes him a very solid bet. I can see him going off around the 4-1 mark.
GOOD THING
Eyecatcher(5.25 Sandown)
I'm quite sweet on Simon Crisford's son of Camelot in this 1m6f 0-70 handicap. He's looked a different horse this season since leaving novice company and was unlucky not to get up in the final stride at Haydock eight days ago, when I tipped and backed the close-up third Airmax. He took a bit of time to get going but when he found his stride he was moving far quicker than his two main rivals and would have been in front a few yards after the post. He gets the extra distance he's been crying out for here, as well as first-time blinkers and Ryan Moore – three factors that can only be seen as huge positives. He's just 2lb higher than for that Haydock performance and aside from maybe Mythological, I can't see a big threat.
