Zarco has the pace to challenge Marquez in qualifying
French rookie making a big impression
BT Sport 2, 8.10pm
It has been a dreadful start to the MotoGP season for defending champion Marc Marquez and his factory Honda team.
The young Spaniard languishes eighth in the table after two races, 37 points behind Yamaha new boy Maverick Vinales, who is a perfect two from two.
There is some hope for Marquez, though - he crashed out of the lead in Argentina last time and was fastest on the first day of practice for this weekend's Grand Prix of the Americas.
Marquez has made the track his own, winning from pole position on all his four appearances at the Texas circuit. Bookmakers are understandably cautious, making Marquez 8-13 to take pole position and evens for the race.
Vinales is rightly considered the chief threat, and the championship leader started his weekend on a positive note by going fastest by a wide margin in the initial practice session.
His quotes around 2-1 for qualifying aren't overly tempting, though, and a better bet could be Johann Zarco each-way.
The French Moto2 champion has made a big impression in the top flight. He built a huge lead in the season-opener in Qatar before crashing out but he still ended up with the fastest lap of the race.
In Argentina he fought his way up from 14th on the grid to finish fifth after a lottery of a qualifying session.
Zarco is no slouching in qualifying, having taken seven pole positions in each of the last two Moto2 seasons.
Zarco has looked sharp in the first two practice sessions and there's plenty of mileage in backing the Tech-3 Yamaha rider at 12-1 with three places on offer.
