Caroline Wozniacki got off to a storming start at the WTA finals - beating Elina Svitolina 6-2 6-0 - and she can follow up with a victory over Simona Halep in the battle between the top two in Red Group.
Halep won her first match in straight sets - defeating Caroline Garcia 6-4 6-2 - but faces a trickier contest against Wozniacki, whose best attributes (accuracy and court coverage) are very similar.
Wozniacki leads 3-2 on the head-to-head and outlasted the Romanian in their meeting in the Eastbourne quarter-finals this year, winning 5-7 6-4 6-1.
The Dane is playing with the same belief she showed when winning last month's Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and looks value at odds-against to beat Halep, who hasn't landed a title since winning the Madrid Open in May.
Rising star Jared Donaldson has just broken into the top 50 for the first time in his career and looks a solid bet to see off Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics (the world number 100) in their Swiss Indoors first round clash in Basel.
Donaldson has qualified for next week's Next Generation finals in Milan and will want to go there with a couple of decent performances under his belt.
The American has climbed from 105 to 50 in the rankings this year and should have the edge on Fucsovics, who lost 6-3 6-2 to South Korean world number 54 Hyeon Chung in the first round of the Stockholm Open last week.
