Hirving Lozano strike causes massive upset to beat Germany

Mexico caused a World Cup sensation by stunning reigning champions Germany with a 1-0 win in Moscow on a day of shocks.

The outsiders, who had been 13-2 to start their Group F campaign with a victory, dominated the first half and thoroughly deserved their lead thanks to Hirving Lozano's strike.

Germany pushed on in the second period but were unable to find an equaliser and have drifted out to 7-1 to retain the trophy. Joachim Low's men have drifted to 1-3 from 1-12 to reach the knockout stage with bet365 and they are 5-2 to finish top of Group F.

Mexico are odds-on with Ladbrokes and Coral to top the section at 10-11 and El Tri suggested they could be dangerous 50-1 outsiders to lift the World Cup if they can continue this kind of form.

Brazil are 4-1 to win the World Cup following their 1-1 draw with Switzerland. Philippe Coutinho put Brazil in front only for Steven Zuber to deny the 4-9 shots with a second-half header.

Following on from Argentina's failure on Saturday it has been a difficult start for favourite backers and Coral's David Stevens said: "Mexico's victory over Germany ensured it was a super Sunday for the layers and Brazil's failure to beat Switzerland really was the icing on the cake."

Serbia are top of Group E after starting their campaign with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica. Aleksandar Kolarov's second-half free kick proved to be the difference.

England will be hoping to avoid slipping up in their opener against Tunisia but the outsiders are talking a good game.

Tunisia's coach Nabil Maaloul said: "This generation has good quality and our objective is to reach the quarter-final, especially as we have played at a high level in friendly matches."

England captain Harry Kane, 18-1 to land the Golden Boot, is looking to catch Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, who started the tournament with a hat-trick against Spain.

"He's put me under a little bit of pressure," said Kane. "Hopefully I can score a hat-trick and we will be level!"

Ladbrokes have reported a £10,000 bet on England at 14-1 and Betfred's Peter Spencer also says punters are starting to come for Gareth Southgate's side.

"England are now our biggest liability followed by Brazil and Spain," said Spencer, while bet365 are also being filled in with support for the Three Lions.

Bet365's Steve Freeth added: "There have been plenty of patriotic plunges in past tournaments that have gone awry, so it’s a bit of a shock to see Southgate’s unheralded team sitting in second in our liability list."
