Sweden's Hanna Oeberg claimed a surprise gold medal in the biathlon women's individual in the 2018 Winter Olympics, but at Beijing 2022 it is her younger sister Elvira who heads the betting for the event.

This is a long-distance race - 15km - against the clock with four stops to shoot the targets, twice prone and twice standing. Each missed shot results in one minute being added to a competitor's time and that could really shake up the order.

Unlike most biathlon venues, the Hualindong Ski Resort is at altitude. The unusually low temperatures and swirling wind played a big part in Saturday's mixed team relay, won in dramatic fashion by Norway.

Marte Olsbu Roiseland is the current World Cup leader. She already has a gold medal having played a vital role in Norway's relay win, overcoming problems with her rifle at the first shoot to hand over a useful lead to teammate Tiril Eckhoff at the end of the first leg.

But perhaps the most eyecatching performance in the relay came from Julia Simon. She put in the fastest leg by a female and needed only two spare rounds to down her ten targets.

The tenacious Frenchwoman has done all her winning in head-to-head races rather than timed events like the individual, but she clearly isn't bothered by the conditions and a repeat of that kind of accuracy will be a massive boon.

Marketa Davidova, winner of the individual at the 2021 World Championships, is also worth adding to the staking plan.
