World number one Simona Halep headlines a stellar field in the women's event in Cincinnati and the inclusion of two-time winner Serena Williams adds to the excitement.
Serena’s sister Venus is the only absentee from the world’s top 16 with bookmakers going 6-1 the field, highlighting the competiveness of the event.
Halep and Sloane Stephens were impressive on their respective runs to the final in Canada last week and both would be a threat to all if they are over their exertions.
However, Wimbledon heroine Angelique Kerber makes the most appeal despite a disappointing showing in Montreal.
The German lost her opening match to Alize Cornet in Canada but punters should expect her to be a different competitor with that run under her belt.
Kerber was also a first-round casualty at the Mallorca Open in June, her first tournament of the grass campaign, before making the last four at Eastbourne and claiming a third Grand Slam crown at Wimbledon.
The fourth seed was a beaten finalist in Cincinnati two years ago and, armed with a favourable draw including a first-round bye, she should be tough to thwart.
The men’s tournament continues in Cincinnati and the best first-round wager could be Stan Wawrinka to topple Diego Schwartzmann.
Stan the Man has seen his world ranking plummet as a result of injuries but his appearances are becoming more frequent and recent results have been encouraging.
The three-time Grand Slam hero came from behind to defeat Nick Kyrgios and Marton Fucsovics before being found out by Rafael Nadal in Canada and he should have come on plenty for those efforts.
Wawrinka is a much more classy operator and a chance should be taken that he is in good enough nick to silence the Argentinian 12th seed.
