Wells should open account at expense of old stager Borg
Mild-mannered Maltese could be left cross by Welshman
ITV4, midday & 7pm Friday
The one-frame matches in the Coral Shoot Out are not hugely punter-friendly, but if one player ought to win his opening frame in Watford it's Daniel Wells.
The Welshman, 29, is blessed with considerable talent and his best years almost certainly are to come.
Wells is a pretty good breakbuilder, so is more than capable of wrapping up a frame victory in one visit.
Of course, that statement applies to anyone on the main tour – they would not be plying their trade on it if they didn’t have the ability.
But veteran Alex Borg, who Wells meets first, is definitely one of the tour's lesser lights.
With Tony Drago long having parted top-level snooker – he's still a major draw in exhibition events – Borg has been Malta's top player for the last few years.
However, veteran Borg has compiled only 14 breaks of 50 or higher in 104 frames this season, none of which were centuries, and he could be vulnerable. Wells has made 35 50-plus runs in 146 frames this season.
