USA right market leaders with the Williamses in tow

Holland not expected to prove a problem for American aces

New mother Serena Williams could enjoy herself playing Fed Cup this year
1 of 1

Starts 11am Saturday

USA are favourites to keep hold of the Fed Cup after their final victory in Belarus in November, their first in the competition since 2000.

Serena and Venus Williams are set to represent the Americans in round one and as far as punters are concerned, it may just be a question of whether the sisters keep up their enthusiasm for the cup all year long.

While USA should see off Holland with little trouble in North Carolina, Belarus also look good things to open with a win against a German side missing Angelique Kerber and Julia Goerges but are too short to back.

France could need Kristina Mladenovic to stay strong throughout their tie if they are to see off a Belgium team boosted by the presence of the solid Elise Mertens, while there is a thriller in store between Czech Republic and Switzerland in Prague.

Belinda Bencic has made rapid strides this season after an injury-blighted 2017 and with Barbora Strycova possibly playing singles in preference to Karolina Pliskova, the home side may be reliant on Petra Kvitova carrying over the fine form she showed when when winning the St Petersburg title last Sunday.

Bencic still has more to find in her recovery, though, so a straightforward bet on market leaders USA could be the way to go.
