Uihlein can see off the big names to be best American
Peter Uihlein could take great heart from his two most recent tournaments and the former US Amateur champion appears to be getting back to his best after injury problems.
Uihlein, a winner on the European Tour in 2013, is only 27 and still has time to realise his considerable potential. His achievement this week could be top American honours in the Abu Dhabi Championship.
This market is dominated by Dustin Johnson, but the world number three is making his course debut and may start slowly after his 20-hour flight from Florida.
Rickie Fowler could also be sluggish out the blocks having not competed since the first week of December.
Uihlein, who closed last year with 14th place in the Hong Kong Open and opened this year with seventh in the SA Open, contended at Abu Dhabi in 2015 before a final-round 74.
He made 24 birdies and an eagle in South Africa last week and will be well capable of mixing it with Johnson and Fowler if he carries that form to the UAE.
