Tough Toulouse unlikely to suffer a derby defeat

Bordeaux have drawn all three away games this term

Bordeaux head coach Jocelyn Gourvennec

Ligue 1
BT Sport Extra, 7.45pm Friday

Bordeaux have not won a Ligue 1 game in Toulouse since December 2009 and Girondins’ Garonne Derby hoodoo looks set to continue for a while longer.

They are unbeaten in five matches in the league this season but Bordeaux’s best performances have come at home, where they have beaten Troyes and Metz.

Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team have drawn all three of their away fixtures - they were outplayed by Angers, scraped a draw against Lyon thanks to two late goals and barely landed a blow against Lille last time out.

Gourvennec has added firepower to the ranks by prising Nicolas de Preville away from Lille but he made little impact against his old club and a repeat performance could leave Bordeaux struggling for goals.

Toulouse are two points behind their opponents but their defeats came against champions Monaco on the opening day and against Paris St-Germain, who thumped them 6-2.

They have also chalked up deserved home wins against Montpellier and Rennes and should arguably not be underdogs for this clash at the Municipal Stadium.

Gourvennec is a highly-rated coach but he must find a way for his team to win on the road if they are to challenge the top three. Toulouse is not an easy place for them to start.
