Expert Premier League predictions from Mark Langdon: Brentford to relegate Leeds

Thumbs up for Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah and Joelinton in end-of-season awards

The curtain is about to come down on another exhausting Premier League season and it's only right to celebrate those who have made it the best league in the world (copyright: Sky Sports).

Player of the season

Not an easy decision but as Manchester City are long odds-on for the title maybe it is only right to choose their best performer. Kevin De Bruyne has added goals (15) to his other brilliant attributes.

Goal of the season

Mohamed Salah's superb solo run and finish against City was ridiculously good.

Manager of the season

There are two games left of the European season and Liverpool can still win the quad. The way Jurgen Klopp runs the Reds is astonishing.

Position of the season

Yes, I know this isn't a real one but it was difficult to fit in my admiration of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao Cancelo so let's celebrate the importance of full-backs in the modern game.

Cancelo has had nearly 600 touches more than any other Premier League player and carried the ball into the final third of 136 occasions. Bernardo Silva was next with 107, the only other player to break 90.

Alexander-Arnold tops numerous fbref.com player stats, including through balls which shows he is the ultimate playmaker. And what about Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, Reece James and Marc Cucurella too? All are top players.

Signing of the season

When Antonio Conte said gimme, gimme, gimme a ginger from Sweden few could have predicted just how influential Dejan Kulusevski would become for Tottenham. He leads the league with nearly one goal-creating action per 90 minutes.

Most improved player of the season

They signed him as a striker but Joelinton has turned into a proper midfield driving force and Jarrod Bowen also deserves a mention as he moves towards becoming an elite performer.

Most over-criticised player of the season

Jack Grealish may not have lived up to his price tag but he was never going to scale the goalscoring and assist heights. He is a dribbler who commits defenders, creating space for others and he has 88 carries into the penalty area, 19 more than next-best Salah.

Disappointment of the season

Maybe things are so bad at Old Trafford it's difficult to judge individuals but apart from one small purple patch Jadon Sancho has been so average for Manchester United

Quandary of the season

Is 18-goal Cristiano Ronaldo really part of the problem at United?

Comeback of the season

Shout out to Bakayo Sako to recover from his penalty miss in the Euros final, but in that tournament Christian Eriksen suffered what could have been a fatal collapse. Since he signed for Brentford they Bees have won seven and drawn one of the nine matches the great Dane has started.

Pundit of the season

It helps that Ally McCoist isn't on every week but what a joy it is when he pops up on commentary. His BT Sport social media show with Chris Sutton and Darrell Currie on a Friday is also up there with the best football content around.

Wish for next season

The obsession with refereeing decisions ends.

Wish for future seasons

Watching the EFL playoffs this week just once again highlighted what amazing drama they produce? Is there a way the Premier League could adopt a playoff, even if it was for the Europa Conference spot, to entice mid-table teams to keep pushing in the final weeks?

Best bet for this weekend

Leeds need something from their trip to Brentford but the Bees looked motivated in last week's win at Everton and there is some beef between the clubs which should see Thomas Frank's men up for the battle.

It's only three wins in 17 for Leeds and two of those were against relegated Norwich and Watford.

Best bet
