Tournament previews

ATP Kremlin Cup

Kremlin Cup top seed Daniil Medvedev is a hot favourite to follow his Shanghai Masters triumph with victory in Moscow, but the Russian may be worth opposing after a busy, successful campaign.

Karen Khachanov is seeded second at the Olympic Stadium, but Medvedev's compatriot isn't always the most convincing of performers while third seed Marin Cilic has been going through the motions.

Andrey Rublev, seeded sixth this week, could be the answer and finish his season with a key title.

The Muscovite opens with a potentially tough clash against Alexander Bublik, who won their only previous meeting.

Bublik has been in decent nick himself and made the finals in Newport and Chengdu.

He could again trouble Rublev, but if the selection is to hold any hopes of upending Medvedev later in the week he needs to see off Bublik in good style first.

Ricardas Berankis is an outsider to consider but the Lithuanian usually finds one or two blocking his path.

ATP European Open

Andy Murray's return to fitness and form is set to gather pace in the European Open this week and the British legend is barely double figures to lift the singles trophy in Antwerp.

It’s an incredible turnaround for Murray, who feared he may never play again competitively after a major hip operation earlier earlier this year, and the early draw gives Murray a fine chance to make the quarter-finals at least.

Murray can definitely be considered but top seed Gael Monfils, who was runner-up to Kyle Edmund last year, looks the likeliest victor after enjoying arguably the best season of his career.

The French ace isn't always the most reliable of punting propositions but he could have the beating of anyone in the field, including second seed David Goffin.

ATP Stockholm Open

Sweden could enjoy its best Stockholm Open for a long time with brothers Mikael Ymer and Elias Ymer both climbing up the ATP rankings.

Mikael is now in the top 100 – Elias is just outside it – but the younger brother is more highly thought of.

Young guns Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz look genuine title hopes this week, but instead it may pay punters to chance Mikael Ymer.

He opens against Joao Sousa, which is seldom an easy task, but subsequent possible clashes against Fernando Verdasco, Shapovalov and Fabio Fognini or Reilly Opelka in the top half of the draw could give the 21-year-old a chance to strut his stuff.

WTA Kremlin Cup

Kremlin Cup top seed and favourite Elina Svitolina may never get a better chance of lifting Moscow's premier title, but this tournament has seen some shock results down the years and it could pay to expect further surprises.

Clearly, the winner is likely to come from the trio of Svitolina, Kiki Bertens and Belinda Bencic, but punters should afford respect to the contestants from Russia and the surrounding nations.

Ekaterina Alexandrova is the only Russian seed after enjoying her best career campaign, but at bigger odds it could pay to chance Anastasia Potapova.

She is one of the home nation's best young players and could be value to find a path through the draw.

WTA Luxembourg Open

TV: BT Sport

Last week's Linz champion Coco Gauff bids to follow up on her first main-tour title in Luxembourg this week and unsurprisingly the oddsmakers are giving little away with the brilliant American teenager.

After entering the main draw in Linz as a lucky-loser last week, Gauff was best at 22-1 and was considerably shorter with some firms.
Gauff's task this week is harder, so while the world is her oyster and she merits huge respect, the 15-year-old from Atlanta makes little appeal at the odds available.

Elise Mertens is the top seed, but there was a lot to like about the way Fiona Ferro went about her business in mid-season and the Belgium-born Frenchwoman, champion in Lausanne in July, could again go well if overcoming a potentially difficult opener against Monica Puig.
