Peter Gojowczyk, quarter-final conqueror of Ivo Karlovic, came in for early support to reach the final of the Hall of Fame Open with a victory over qualifier Matt Ebden in Newport.

But while Gojowczyk, semi-finalist in Doha in 2014, probably deserves to reach his first main-tour final after some promising performances this season, neither player could be backed with a reasonable degree of confidence.

Ebden defeated Tobias Kamke 4-6 7-6 6-4 in the Rhode Island quarter-finals, while Gojowczyk edged out second seed and last year's winner Karlovic in three tiebreak sets.

Kiki Bertens, second seed in the Gstaad Championship, looks a little short at 1-4 to end the hopes of Sara Sorribes Tormo and there may be a bit of value in the Spaniard upsetting the dual Nuremberg champion.

Sorribes Tormo is 8-11 receiving a start of 5.5 games on bookmakers' handicaps and that may be a good way to support the underdog.
