Top seed Kyle Edmund begins his ATP European Open campaign in Antwerp against Albert Ramos Vinolas and the Briton may have to work to advance.

Edmund has been in flying form, reaching the semi-finals in Beijing and the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters in recent weeks.

However, the switch to indoor courts could leave Edmund vulnerable to a player of Ramos Vinolas’s experience and the Spanish world number 50 is worth backing to nick at least a set.

Ramos Vinolas reached the quarter-finals in Shenzhen last month, where he was beaten 2-1 by the eventual champion Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

He opened his Belgian adventure with a straight-sets win over qualifier Stephane Robert where he won 93 per cent of his first-serve points and that should put him in the right frame of mind.

Women's world number one Simona Halep has pulled out of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow due to an ongoing back injury.

The Romanian French Open champion is already guaranteed to end the year as the top-ranked women’s player.
